Early Life
Eboni K. Williams was born on September 9, 1983 in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was raised by her single mother, who worked as a bus driver. After finishing high school, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Communications and African American studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She later went on to law school and obtained her J.D. degree from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. While she was a law student, she clerked for the Louisiana Secretary of State and the Louisiana Attorney General's office. She also assisted New Orleans council-members in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Career
Williams began her legal career by providing legal counsel in family law and civil litigation in 2008. She also worked as a public defender before returning to private practice in 2010. During this time, she provided representation for clients in homicide, rape, drug, sex crime, and federal offense cases. After years as a practicing attorney, Williams decided she wanted to pursue a career in broadcast journalism.
In 2014, Williams was hired by CBS News as a correspondent. She covered daily news with a specific focus on legal issues, though also covered broader news stories as well. She remained in the position for one year before she was hired by Fox News as an anchor and legal and political analyst in 2015. In this role, she was featured on some of the network's most popular shows at the time like "The O'Reilly Factor" and "Hannity." She was often featured on segments that required legal analysis and was sometimes asked to be on the Fox Business Network as well.
In 2017, Williams joined a new show on Fox News called "Fox News Specialists" as a co-host, making her the first Black woman to co-host a prime-time cable news show. She co-hosted the show along with Eric Boling and Kat Timpf. The show additionally featured two rotating guests called specialists and the panel would discuss current events and political issues. The show was created to replace "The Five," which was moved to a different time slot after Bill O'Reilly was forced out of Fox News. However, after Eric Boling faced allegations of sexual misconduct, the show struggled to build momentum and Fox cancelled "Fox New Specialists in September 2017. Williams remained at Fox until 2018 before leaving the network. She has since described her time with Fox as challenging and says that her intent in joining the historically more conservative network was to disrupt the status quo and provide a more diverse range of viewpoints.
In 2017, Williams joined WABC Radio as a co-host of a midday talk show along with longtime radio personality Curtis Sliwa. She replaced Ron Kuby as Sliwa's co-host. She made her first appearance on the show in June before leaving in October. The same year, she published a book called "Pretty Powerful: Appearance, Substance, and Success."
In 2019, Williams began hosting her own show on Revolt TV called "State of Culture." She also works as an executive producer on the show. The show had originally been created in 2018 by Joe Budden and Sean Combs. In 2020, Williams began hosting and executive producing the podcast "Holding Court with Eboni K. Williams." In the show, she discusses prominent news headlines and provides the legal angle.
Williams joined the cast of "The Real Housewives of New York City" in 2021 as the first Black cast member of that particular show. She joined the show's 13th season but left by the 14th season. She has since stated that she experienced racism on the set of the show from some of the other castmates and that she brought some of her issues to the show's production team, but nothing was done.
Williams was invited to join "The View" as a guest host in 2021. In 2022, Williams began hosting "Dark Nights in the City" on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. On the show, she talks about notorious crimes committed in New York City and provides legal analysis. The same year, she also began hosting "The Grio," another show that covers news issues with a specific focus on their effect on Black global audiences.
