Edin Džeko Net Worth

What Is Edin Džeko's Net Worth and Salary?

Edin Džeko is a Bosnian professional soccer player who has a net worth of $50 million.

Edin Džeko, nicknamed "The Bosnian Diamond," is one of the most successful players in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A powerful 6-foot-4 striker known for his finishing, aerial ability, technique, and longevity, Džeko has won league championships in Germany and England, finished as the leading scorer in both the Bundesliga and Serie A, reached a Champions League final with Inter Milan, and represented his country at two World Cups. His club career has included Wolfsburg, Manchester City, Roma, Inter Milan, Fenerbahçe, Fiorentina, and Schalke.

Džeko has also earned substantial money during a professional career spanning more than two decades. Bloomberg Adria calculated that his gross soccer earnings had reached roughly €113 million, or approximately $132 million, through 2025, before endorsements and investment income. At Manchester City, he was earning £150,000 per week by 2014. Roma subsequently offered him a contract worth €4.5 million per season, and Fenerbahçe paid him €4.2 million, or roughly $4.6 million, in each of his two seasons in Turkey. Away from soccer, Džeko has invested heavily in Sarajevo real estate, a major residential and commercial development, restaurants in Dubrovnik, and other private businesses.

Early Life

Edin Džeko was born on March 17, 1986, in Sarajevo, which was then part of Yugoslavia.

Džeko was six years old when the Siege of Sarajevo began during the Bosnian War. His family's home was destroyed, and the family was forced to live with relatives in cramped conditions. He continued playing soccer throughout an extremely dangerous childhood.

Džeko joined the youth system of Željezničar, one of Sarajevo's leading clubs, and eventually made his senior debut in 2003. He initially played as a midfielder rather than as the traditional center-forward he would later become.

His early performances in Bosnia did not immediately suggest that he would become an elite European striker. A move to the Czech Republic changed his trajectory.

Czech Republic and Wolfsburg

In 2005, Džeko moved to Czech club Teplice, initially spending time on loan with Ústí nad Labem.

His performances attracted the attention of Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath, who brought him to the Bundesliga in 2007.

Džeko scored eight league goals during his first season in Germany before exploding in 2008-09. Playing alongside Brazilian striker Grafite, he scored 26 Bundesliga goals while Grafite scored 28.

The pair combined for 54 league goals as Wolfsburg stunned German soccer by winning the first Bundesliga championship in club history.

Džeko was particularly dominant during the second half of the season, scoring 21 goals in Wolfsburg's final 16 league matches. He scored twice in a famous 5-1 victory over Bayern Munich that helped propel Wolfsburg toward the title.

He followed the championship season by scoring 22 league goals in 2009-10, winning the Bundesliga's top-scorer award.

By the time he left Wolfsburg, Džeko had scored 66 Bundesliga goals, making him the club's all-time leading scorer in the competition.

$43 Million Manchester City Transfer

In January 2011, Manchester City paid Wolfsburg £27 million, worth approximately $43 million at the time, to acquire Džeko.

The transfer placed him in a star-studded City attack that included Sergio Agüero, Carlos Tevez, and Mario Balotelli.

Džeko initially struggled to adapt to English soccer, scoring only one Premier League goal during the second half of his first season. He soon became a valuable part of one of the most important periods in Manchester City's history.

During the 2011-12 season, he scored four goals in a 5-1 victory over Tottenham and contributed to City's dramatic pursuit of its first English league championship since 1968.

On the final day of the season, City trailed Queens Park Rangers 2-1 deep into stoppage time and appeared destined to lose the title to Manchester United. Džeko headed in an equalizer in the 92nd minute. Moments later, Agüero scored the legendary championship-winning goal.

City won another Premier League title in 2013-14. Džeko scored 16 league goals that season, including several important goals during the title run-in.

He also won the FA Cup and League Cup during his time in Manchester.

Manchester City Salary

Džeko's move to the Premier League also transformed his finances.

By 2014, his Manchester City salary was reported at £150,000 per week. That equaled £7.8 million per year, or approximately $13 million annually at the exchange rates of the period, before bonuses.

Džeko signed a new four-year Manchester City contract in 2014, but increasing competition for playing time ultimately led him to leave England the following year.

He finished his City career with 72 goals in 189 appearances across all competitions.

Roma

In August 2015, Džeko moved to Roma on an initial season-long loan.

Roma paid Manchester City €4 million for the loan and agreed to pay another €11 million if conditions triggering a permanent transfer were met. The deal ultimately became permanent.

Džeko reportedly accepted a substantial pay cut from his Manchester City compensation to join Roma. His proposed contract was worth approximately €4.5 million per season, equal to roughly $5 million at the time.

His first season in Italy was uneven, but the move eventually became one of the defining chapters of his career.

In 2016-17, Džeko scored 29 Serie A goals to win the Capocannoniere as the league's leading scorer. He also scored eight times in the Europa League, finishing joint-top of that competition's scoring chart.

His combination of goals, hold-up play, passing, and durability made him a central figure at Roma for six seasons.

Džeko played alongside club legend Francesco Totti during the early portion of his Roma career and later became the team's captain.

In the 2017-18 Champions League, Džeko helped Roma reach the semifinals. The run included one of the greatest comebacks in Champions League history, when Roma overturned a 4-1 first-leg deficit against Barcelona with a 3-0 victory in Rome.

Džeko left Roma in 2021 after scoring 119 goals in 260 appearances. He ranks among the leading scorers in club history.

Inter Milan

In August 2021, Džeko joined Inter Milan on a two-year contract.

At age 35, he continued producing at a level unusual for a striker of his age. He helped Inter win two Coppa Italia trophies and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.

Džeko shared attacking duties with players including Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martínez.

His most significant Inter season came in 2022-23. Džeko scored in the first leg of Inter's Champions League semifinal against city rival AC Milan, helping the club reach its first Champions League final since 2010.

Inter faced Džeko's former club Manchester City in the final in Istanbul. City won 1-0.

Džeko left Inter after the season, having scored 31 goals in 101 appearances for the club.

Fenerbahçe Salary

Džeko joined Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe on a free transfer in 2023.

The club publicly disclosed unusually precise details of his compensation. Fenerbahçe agreed to pay Džeko €4.2 million per season for both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 campaigns.

That amounted to €8.4 million, or roughly $9 million, in base salary over two seasons.

Džeko remained an extremely productive striker in Turkey despite being in his late 30s. He was named captain and scored regularly in both domestic and European competition.

Fiorentina and Schalke

After his Fenerbahçe contract expired, Džeko returned to Italy with Fiorentina in 2025.

His stay in Florence lasted only half a season. In January 2026, Džeko returned to Germany by signing with Schalke, then competing in the 2. Bundesliga.

At age 39, he immediately became an important part of Schalke's promotion push. Džeko scored six goals and contributed three assists after arriving during the winter as the club won promotion back to the Bundesliga.

His initial six-month contract expired following the season. Schalke brought him back in August 2026 on a new one-year deal through 2027.

His reported Schalke salary is €900,000 per year, with performance bonuses capable of increasing his compensation to approximately €1.3 million, or around $1.5 million.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Džeko made his senior international debut for Bosnia and Herzegovina in June 2007 and scored in his first appearance.

He eventually became both the country's all-time leading scorer and its most-capped player.

Džeko played a pivotal role in Bosnia qualifying for its first major international tournament, the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He scored during the tournament as Bosnia defeated Iran 3-1 for the country's first World Cup victory.

More than a decade later, Džeko helped Bosnia qualify for the 2026 World Cup. He scored six goals during the qualifying campaign and, at age 40, captained his country at the tournament.

Bosnia advanced from the group stage and reached the round of 32, where it lost 2-0 to the United States. Džeko made his 150th international appearance during the tournament.

In September 2026, Džeko announced that Bosnia's October 2 Nations League match against Sweden would be his final appearance for the national team. Entering his farewell match, he held Bosnia and Herzegovina records with 151 appearances and 73 goals.

Career Earnings

Džeko's longevity across several of Europe's richest leagues produced more than two decades of substantial soccer income.

A 2026 analysis by Bloomberg Adria calculated that Džeko had earned approximately €113 million from soccer through 2025. That figure, equal to roughly $132 million, represented gross playing income adjusted to 2025 values and excluded endorsements, sponsorship income, and investment returns.

Some of the clearest salary benchmarks include his £150,000-per-week Manchester City salary, his roughly €4.5 million annual Roma compensation, and his €4.2 million annual contracts at Fenerbahçe.

Džeko has also earned sponsorship and endorsement income throughout his career, particularly in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he has been one of the country's most recognizable public figures for nearly two decades.

Real Estate and Business Investments

Džeko began investing outside soccer well before the end of his playing career, with real estate forming a major part of his portfolio.

In 2014, he acquired an 841-square-meter property on Titova Street in central Sarajevo for 4.65 million Bosnian marks, equal to roughly $3.1 million at the time. The transaction later became involved in a legal ownership dispute.

He also built a large four-story private residence in Sarajevo's Višnjik neighborhood.

One of his biggest known investments is Premier Park, a residential and commercial development near Sarajevo City Center. Džeko and banker Amer Bukvić co-founded Premier Investment Group to develop the project.

Public business records reported in 2023 showed company capital of 10.9 million Bosnian marks, approximately $5.9 million. Džeko's share represented about 5.4 million marks, or roughly $2.9 million.

Džeko has also invested in Croatian real estate, including a residential development near Split.

Restaurant and Other Investments

Dubrovnik has become another important center of Džeko's business interests.

In 2019, he and partners opened Cafe & Hookah Bar Ritual. Two years later, Džeko and Armin Hadžić opened Ezza Steak & Cocktail Bar in Dubrovnik. The restaurant identifies Džeko as an owner and co-founder.

Džeko and his wife have also invested in Milan-based footwear company Hidn-Ander.

These projects have helped diversify a financial portfolio built primarily from his long professional soccer career.

Personal Life

Edin Džeko married model and actress Amra Silajdžić in 2014. The couple have four children.

Džeko has maintained close ties to Sarajevo throughout a career that took him to the Czech Republic, Germany, England, Italy, Turkey, and back to Germany.

In 2009, he became Bosnia and Herzegovina's first UNICEF ambassador. He has supported charitable initiatives involving children and families affected by poverty and the long-term consequences of the Bosnian War.

Džeko also continued his education while playing professionally and earned a bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Sarajevo in 2018.

His career is especially notable for its longevity. After winning the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg in his early 20s and two Premier League championships with Manchester City, Džeko remained productive well into his late 30s and 40s, ultimately returning to Germany nearly two decades after first arriving there as an unproven striker.
